Capoeira Judge Training Class Class Objective: To train participants to serve as judges in capoeira competitions, championships, and DMC Selections, understanding the evaluation criteria, the rules of the game, and the importance of Capoeira's cultural and sporting context. Capoeira's Sporting Context In the sporting context, capoeira evolved from a cultural and resistance practice to a structured sport with rules, competitions, and worldwide recognition. This sporting aspect developed primarily from the 20th century onward, when capoeira began to gain legitimacy and popularity. 1. Organization and Structure Capoeira Academies and Groups: From the 20th century onward, mestres such as Mestre Bimba and Mestre Pastinha were instrumental in formalizing capoeira, creating academies and developing teaching methods. Mestre Bimba, for example, created the Luta Regional Bahiana (Bahian Regional Fight), now better known as "Capoeira Regional," a more systematized version with codified techniques and movements. This process helped transform capoeira into an organized and accessible activity for a variety of ages and skill levels. Graduations: Graduation systems were introduced with ropes or cords that indicate the practitioner's skill and knowledge level, similar to those found in other martial arts. This brought greater structure to the teaching and practice of capoeira. Regulatory Class for DMC Judges Class Objective: To share with all future judges of the Desafio Mundial Capoeira the evaluation criteria used in DMC capoeira competitions, focusing on the aspects of Game Volume, Technique, Objectivity, Cadence, Creativity, and Continuity.
